My TBR List, Part One

3/25/2021

I like big books and i cannot lie.

... Ok, I like little books too... alright, I pretty much like all the books.

Since this week has gotten away from me - how is it already Thursday? - I thought I'd pop on with a quick post about TBRs. You know, To Be Read books. Today I'm sharing my physical stack. There's also my library TBR and my Audible TBLT (to be listened to) queues. I am what one might call a Voracious Reader (and listener).

As you can see, I have a thing for Fantasy and all it's sub-genres. Most of my reading is pure escapism. The last thing I want to do is sit down with a book about every day people dealing with every day things. I live that shit, I don't want to read about it.

Give me dark, deceptive Fae, Witches of any sort, Vampires, Werewolves - and all the other Shifters too. I want White Walkers, Knights of the Seven Kingdoms - or any other kingdom, for that matter. I'll take talking Animals and Dragons. Definitely give me Dragons. All. The. Dragons. I want Waifs and Princesses, Kings and Slaves. I want story based on Tarot, The Hero's Journey; and even better, The Heroine's Journey. Give me Fantasy based in Celtic lore, African Gods, Asian Mythology, and Native American Legends. I want it and I will devour it.

Next time we talk about books, we'll talk about my Audible obsession.

So, what's on your TBR list?

Music makes everything better.

As discussed last week, and requested by a few of you, here is my Motivate Me playlist on Spotify. Just remember, I warned you - it's pretty eclectic: rock, pop, rap, country, classical....

That's it for today. I'll be back later this week with something good!

Let's talk about bright ideas and dreams.

We all have them, after all. Everybody, every single one of us, has a good idea - hell, probably even a great idea - from time to time. The ideas and the dreams, though? That's the easy part. The hard part is making that shit happen.

If you're anything like me, it all starts to fall apart for you in the space between the idea, or dream, and reality. But it's that space, my friends, where the action happens; where we take our dreams and bright ideas and make them...

REALITY.

So, what kind of 'ACTION' am I talking about?

Picture

Umm... no, not that kind of action. Get your mind out of the gutter. This ain't that kind of website!

I'm talking about the actions that we can use to take our...

and
make
them...

Well then, what are some of those actions?

There are so many answers to this question. Seriously. I could create an entire blog series around this one question and write a post about each answer...

(Excuse me while I file that away for future reference in my content calendar.)

For the sake of keeping things simple, I'm going share my 5 favorite tips for getting after your dreams and making them reality. These are the things that help me stay on track as I pursue my dreams.

1.) Write it down.

And I don't mean type it into the notes app on your phone. Nope. I mean pick up a pen and write the words on actual paper. You can type it up neat and pretty later; but for now, write that shit down. Clearly state your desired outcome. If you're feeling extra punchy, start listing out the initial steps you can take to get the ball rolling.

Guess what? That bright idea? Your dream? It just became a goal. See what we did there?

Review that list regularly and add to it or revise as needed.

2.) Decide to go for it & commit to it.

As Henry Ford once said, " Whether you think you can, or you think you can't -- you're right."

Consistency breeds results... Fall down seven times; get up eight... I could keep going, but I'm betting you're picking up what I'm laying down.

3.) Keep learning.

Read. Listen to podcasts. Watch videos. Stalk successful social media accounts. Visit websites. Engage with people who can teach you things. Do all of this.

4.) Listen to Music.

Nothing gets me going more than a great playlist. I can do do anything if I have a killer soundtrack in the background. There are hundreds, probably thousands of motivational playlists out there.

I recommend creating your own to keep the momentum going. There's nothing worse than vibin' to sweet jams only to have the moment ruined by that one song that reminds you of that jerk that broke your heart back in the day.

You can check out Spotify's list of the All-Time Top 20 Most Motivational Songs if you need some help getting started. I'd be happy to share my epic motivational playlist if y'all are interested - but I warn you, it's eclectic AF.

5.) Ask for help.

This is a hard one for me. I'm used to being the go-to person when other people need assistance. Asking for help myself is something I'm still learning how to do gracefully. I do it though... or I'm trying to. If this is a hard one for you too, just remind yourself that people love sharing their knowledge. I know I get a little charge when someone asks me for my opinion or advice. Don't you?
